Wax & Bones jewellery is made by hand from my home studio in Fremantle, Western Australia. All the specimens I use are found, usually by me but occasionally they're gifts. I never harm animals to make jewellery. In keeping with my general love of diy, sustainability & the environment, I upcycle old silver chains & metal whenever I can.
If I have to buy metal I do it through A&E metals, who pride themselves on their dedication to recycling silver from scrap to minimise the impact of silver mines. Most of the metal I get from them is 100% recycled. They have also implemented methods of reducing chemical & power use in the metal refining process.
On occasion I outsource casting to Palloys casting house in Sydney. They also use metal from A&E, & they're one of Australia's oldest casting houses. They cast high quality rough pieces, which are exact copies of the originals I send them. I still personally finish these pieces off by hand myself with sawing, sanding, soldering, forging & shaping, link making, chain work, patina & polishing.
